Another exciting weekend full of bruises and Awesome. I have the coolest friends.
Went to a Transhumanism meetup group, and only 2 other people showed. I will therefore be starting one up out here. Last Friday of the month (the 25th this time around), likely at 7 somewhere on C Hill. Depending on anticipated attendance, maybe even just my digs, but likely somewhere else. We’ll work it out. Let me know.
Also, my parents are visiting the weekend of Dragon*Con. I suppose it’s a good thing I held off on getting tickets, but I’m still super sad about this. Was going to see so many friends! Damnit.
Learning to take time for myself. It’s terribly important, I’m finding.
I and anthony would like to attend your Transhumanist group… please keep me posted 🙂
I’m igorant: what’s transhumanism, please?
From Wikipedia: Transhumanism [is] a term often used as a synonym for “human enhancement”, is an international, intellectual and cultural movement supporting the use of science and technology to enhance human mental and physical abilities and aptitudes, and overcome what it regards as undesirable and unnecessary aspects of the human condition, such as disability, suffering, disease, aging and involuntary death. Transhumanist thinkers study the possibilities and consequences of developing and using human enhancement techniques and other emerging technologies for these purposes. Possible dangers, as well as benefits, of powerful new technologies that might radically change the conditions of human life are also of concern to the transhumanist movement.
Thanks…I always forget there’s Wiki-p. I love your icon.
I just used Wikipedia as I had no way to succinctly define it. I’m more of a futurist than a transhumanist (or rather I’m interested in the intersection of futurism and literature). The icon comes from Pictures for Sad Children, a comic which I quite like.
Hello, sweet pea! So glad to see you on here.
“How’d you know it was me?” 😉
I totally want to go to Dragon*con. I’ll go at some point I guess. I have a bunch of friends who vend there. It would be loads of fun to go.
it would have been awesome to see you at dragon*con
i’ve already gotten spoiled to living within walking distance of it and i’ve only gone one year 🙂
