transient

I remember stating how much I enjoy being liminal while in the midst of my roadtrip out to Seattle.

It’s been mentioned on the news, I’m told, that there’s a bedbug epidemic right now, but it certainly didn’t make me feel any better about having them myself. Don’t know where they came from: they don’t thrive on filth (and I keep a pretty tidy place), I had a donated bed, lots of visiting friends, and the apartment management was in and out of my apartment on several occasions as well. However they got in, they made the place impossible to sleep in (I had dumped the bed but they were in the carpet). Began staying with friends while I waited for the management to spray the apartment. And I waited. And waited. And it never happened. I did all the legal hoop-jumping, and thanks to major help from a couple of friends, got all of my stuff out in 3 days and quit the premises. The management has been awful during this whole mess, being completely unhelpful and actually verbally antagonistic at points. My stuff is spread across the city (which is kind of a blessing, actually, as it’s due to so many people being so gracious in helping me through this), I’m on buses getting to and from places at least two hours a day, and mucking through CraigsList to find roommates has been tiring (lots of potentially cool people and places, but they’re also getting a lot of feedback, and my heart gets a bit broken at times).

Why I am telling you all this? Well, although I update Twitter frequently, I haven’t been very vocal about the specifics or about asking for help. And someone dear to me got a bit upset at me for not stating my needs. So, dear hearts, here it is: I need help right now. If you know anyone looking for a roommate in Seattle Proper, please let me know. If I can crash on your couch one night, let me know. I really do appreciate it. It’s exhausting to not have a home base, and while I have the means to support myself and move into a place when it’s found, any help in dealing with this situation would really be nice.

Despite (because?) of this, I’m still keeping really busy. Doing Parkour (christ it’s cold), doing lights at the studio, learning Java, H+ on Friday, new books, a class on Sunday, visiting friends, and going to Indiana for giftmas. My computer has a name, I’m geeked out about social networking, and I can blame a certain individual for my calm state of mind and general toe-wiggling. Oh, there’s also the regular job (survived the office party) and the seeing people what I care about.

In parting, you should all watch this because it’s amazing:

And now… now I think a hot shower and making cookies from scratch is in order.

  1. Willow:

I have some folks in the area who may be able to help you out with a place to crash. If it turns out I’m right, you’ll hear from me (or them).

    • We were actually thinking of making our own, especially as it involved trips to the Store Of Science! and legitimizing gasmasks.

Thank you for the offer. I do hope to make it up sometime soonish.

  2. Just reminding you that the geek-cave is definitely open to you. It might not be Seattle proper, but we are about a block away from the Eastgate P&R and the 554 express.

  3. I live on Cap Hill, have a messy apt and three inflatable beds (all with holes way too small for me to find)… not looking for a roomy but could certainly house you for a bit (rent and/or cleaning agreement) meet for coffee and see if we can make a deal?

  4. I’m not looking for a roommate but you can definitely stay at my house. Either give me a call or just show up at my door sometime tonight. Even if I’m not home, my housemates are and they’ll let you in.

  5. Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble Willow. I would offer my place for you to stay, however a 2000 mile commute every morning is rather impossible. So I will offer whatever else I can being here at a distance to help out. If you need anything, please let me know and I’ll do what I can to help. I hope all works out and you are getting back on track again.

I love the vid. That is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in ages. Thanks for sharing it.

BTW I’m sure someone has already shown you this, however in case they haven’t, check out this new video game, “Mirror’s Edge”. It’s Parkour to the extreme!

    • Mirror’s Edge is interesting… I like that there’s a game based on Parkour out there, but the plotline is honestly a bit of crap. However, it’s great that there’s finally a game that when I look at a wall in the game and know I could go over it in real life, I’m not limited due to coding.

Appreciate the offer, Ford. Hope to see you soon.

  6. When you are in Indiana, you should call me; Or tell me when you’ll be around so I can call you.

Anyhoo, I wish I could help you in your current situation. If you need anything while you’re down here, don’t hesitate to ask.

    Love ya!

  7. Egad, Willow. This American Life did a story about bedbug infestations (in NYC, I think) last spring, and it freaked me right the fuck out. Sorry to hear you got hit, and all the struggles that have ensued as a result. I’d offer you a place to crash, but I think the commute might be a bit much. ;P

When are you coming to Indiana? And will you be down Bloomington way at all?

    *smish*

  8. Do you have a license? If so and you have not a permanent residence by the 19th, I have a proposition for you.

We need a Cat/House sitter while we are away for Christmas, you would have full use of my truck, and our house from the 19th until the 28th. You will pay nothing except for gas and food and we would be willing to kick you down some cash for doing so..

If that sounds reasonable, let me know and we will work out the details. If not, that’s cool too but please let us know if you need anything, we have a spare bedroom too.

  9. Aiieeee. What a craptacular thing, bedbugs. I wish I could help you out re: housing, but as so many have said, the commute would be killer, and TX is notoriously crap when it comes to public transportation. 😉 On the other paw, it looks like you’ve got plenty of folks who have your back, and that is incredibly awesome! So now all you need is a little luck in finding permanent housing– and I wish you lots of it.

  10. Most of the peeps that I know might be looking for roommates soon’ish are glued to the east side. Crossing one of the bridges isn’t outside of the realm of posibility for you though I could start asking around.

    • Yeah, crossing the bridges puts so much of a dent in my few precious hours that I just can’t swing it. Thank you, though!

  11. Had I a couch it would be yours. In fact, I am working on getting a 1bedroom apartment and a good couch for crashing on so I can have friends stay over for a night or a month.
