trout are freshwater fish and have underwater weapons (pew pew pew)

The ocean is full of all sorts of wonders terrors.

So I’ve posted about the mantis shrimp, and abuot the little fish that eat your dead skin cells, but today’s blogosphere brought along the manifestation of two more things to make me question even living within sight of the ocean? the seat? salt water. Well, maybe any body of water, but we wouldn’t want to go overboard. (get it? overboard? ha!)

The Goblin Shark, as seen on Ectomo.
Please note: I actually think sharks are really cool and don’t lump them into my general fear of fish. Same with the mantis shrimp. But knowing something weird like this is out there doesn’t help the situation. Then again, we’re just weird monkeys in clothing.

And then there’s the sunfish. Which is huge. And is a fish. So screw that noise.

From Dark Roasted Blend.

I mean really. Really guys?

Emperical Testing

I’m going to make a graph today (or over the weekend, but I will be starting today) which will show my online presence. Question is, what do I use as the factor? Help me out!

(it will end up looking sort of like population by land mass maps or sensitivity images – the denser or more sensitive, the bigger the representative area)

Yes, crayons and graph paper will be involved.

Good lord, look at my geek go unchecked.

You like it! Admit it!

coffee love

So I’m in this pretty rad coffee shop right now, called Cherry Street Coffee House, reading The Ontology of Cyberspace with Seamus (my brother), who is studying the history of morphine. A bus full of clowns just drove by. It’s that sort of morning.

I will now regale you with two stories from interactions with the devastatingly cute barista (who is wearing a Prince shirt) because I’m in story telling mode and I know you won’t read it unless your middle finger is so worn out from people “merging” in Seattle traffic that you can’t operate your scroll wheel.

DCB: “would you like room for cream?”
me: “blasphamy!”
DCB: “for the sake of the cow?”
me: “oh no, fuck the cow, for the sake of the coffee!”

Seamus then essentially ordered a lot of espresso with a bit of milk. They do a lot of latte art here, and it came out looking like this:

Seamus: “what is it?”
DCB: “a latte!”
Seamus: “..”
DCB: “oh! Um… it’s a.. it’s a flower, see, with some bees and fireworks.”
Seamus: “Awesome. I like to know what things are before I destroy them.”

Life is good. I’ve been thinking a lot about networks and group versus individual blogging. How to define things online. While I hate defining things, it’s necessary when explaining things to others and also when constructing systems of dealing with all the ideas we have being fractured and built upon online. It’s so cool. I’ll likely start pontificating more on such things on here soon. Maybe I should create a geek filter for the sake of humanity.

I’m sorry, is my geek showing?

Matt, this one’s for you buddy.

Because it would totally work on me.

Also bought Comic Book Tattoo today (last copy in that shop. Maybe the last copy in Seattle. Maybe that’s just me being pretentious), slightly against my better judgment. Conversation went a bit like this (recreated by several hours and cups of coffee):
me: “oh! CBT! oh but I shouldn’t.”
Nathan: “why the hell not?”
me: “well, it’s ok and all, but it’s not something I’m completing right now, and they’re kind of hard to come by. I’m sure someone else would be way happier to find it.”
Nathan: “but if you don’t get it then the next person that sees it will buy it, put it in a bag inside a box and never read it. with you it would be loved.”
me: “yes but”
Nathan: “or someone who’s really into it will find it, love the crap out of it, but then leave it at home one day and it will be destroyed in a house fire.”
me: “aw man.”
Nathan: “so see you have to get it.”
me: “are we talking about a comic or a puppy? yeah, ok.”

My friends are so rad.

Bee Boys

So apparently the bees are disappearing. Collony Collapse Disorder. Though it’s not cell phones and Einstein never said that thing about our demise if the bees disappeared.

However.

This is hilarious.

It’s a palendrome sort of day. I’m not even quite sure what that means.

A MAN A PLAN A CANAL PANAMA

Meetings continue..

Aug 8th 7p First Hill Bar and Grill here in Seattle (901 Madison).

Facebook invite (including some reading materials) can be found here. Whitechapel discussion here.

Topic will be information intake, filtering, healthy information diets.

Will set up a mailing list so I’m not spamming my friends list within a week or so. Until then, thank you for your patience. I’ll likely post about it here after the fact. There’s been noise about podcasting it, so any help would be appreciated, though I’m certain I can figure it out on my own.
